In Turkey, it is believed that some people possess the evil eye, a striking or killing force that can bring great harm to life in general, especially children. Wearing an evil eye deflects that evil back to the originator and that is why the evil eye is a common sight in Turkey. The majority of evil eye beads and glass are made in the Aegean region in Turkey but it is possible to find them made from different materials such as leather, ceramic and metal. One of my travelling friend - a dentist, was on a mission to find one that is bigger than his hand so that he could hang it on a wall at his clinic. A tree in the cave region of Cappadocia had the coolest evil eyes hanging from every branch. It was like a surreal Salvador Dali dream.
